Bhopal: A 33-year-old man was killed while six others were injured in a clash between two wings over an objectionable picture of the Congress president Sonia Gandhi in Jabalpur of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday. The photo was shared on a WhatsApp messenger group.

“A person named Umesh Sharma, who was wounded in the clash, succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a hospital in Jabalpur,” confirmed superintendent of police (city) Inderjeet Balsavar.

According to the group of congress corporator Jatin Raj, knives were freely used to attack by the rival faction inside the Vijay Nagar police station, where they had gone to lodge a First Information Report (FIR) against the person who posted Sonia's offensive photo in the messenger group.

Highlights:

  • The cops in Vijay Nagar police station had to call their colleagues from other stations to discipline the two groups after they turned violent.
  • Raj told the police that the picture was posted on a group named ‘Vijay Nagar Friends’ created by him.
  • One Prashant Naik allegedly had posted the photo, which depicted Sonia washing utensils.
  • The caption of the photo said Modi had reduced the Congress chief to such position.
