Nainital: A noble initiative taken by the Water Supply & Sanitation Collaboration Council (WSSCC) has resulted in providing proper sanitation facilities in four Uttarakhand districts which will be declared Open Defecation Free (ODF).

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat, on Dec 10, will give the ODF status to four districts - Chamoli, Champawat, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar, out of the six districts allotted to it.

WSSCC has trained more than 500 persons in the past three years in these districts and guided them in making the action plan for ODF. Districts have utilised IEC funds for follow-up and monitoring.

In an statement issued, WSSCC said, "The government of India has completed external verification process. All four ODF districts will go into our account."

Organization has planned to take forward ODF+ (Leave No One Behind) campaign in these districts which would set an example and a learning centre for various sanitation agencies.
