Woman army major commits suicide with service pistol

Jammu: In a shocking incident, Indian Army Major Anita Kumari allegedly committed suicide by shooting herself with her service pistol at her official residence in Bari Brahmma Depot. The incident took place in the intervening night of Thursday-Friday and the reason of her committing suicide is yet not clear.

What police officials said?

• Major Anita Kumari, 36, ended her life with her service pistol at Bari Brahmana official residence here.
• Kumari belonged to Chamba area in Himachel Pradesh and posted in 259 field supply depot.
• Her room was bolted from inside and we found the gunshot wound on her right temple. We also recovered a pistol from the crime scene

As per police officials, nobody was known about her whereabouts till the door of her residence was broken. Major Anita had a service of eight years in the army. Her body has been sent to the Government Medical College for post-mortem.
