Ranjit Savarkar will also be meeting Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to discuss Rahul Gandhi's remark on Veer Savarkar during a rally.

"Rahul Gandhi's reaction is very unfortunate. He is habitual of making such comments," Ranjit Savarkar said.

"Jawaharlal Nehru once called Shivaji a 'lootera' but later apologised for his comment. He is repeating his family's mistake," Ranjit Savarkar added.

In an interview with India Today TV, Ranjit Savarkar appealed to Uddhav Thackeray and Narendra Modi to take strong action against Rahul Gandhi

Ranjit Savarkar also demanded that the Shiv Sena should sever ties with the Congress and run a minority government in Maharashtra.

"Government will not fall. BJP and Shiv Sena can form government. Sarkar aati hai jati hai lekin aisa apman bardash nahi [Governments come and go but such insults won't be tolerated]," Ranjit said.

"We should not insult our freedom fighters and leaders. Congress is insulting Savarkar to take on Shiv Sena. Shiv Sena should remove Congress ministers and run a minority government as BJP is not going to vote against them," he added.

Rahul Gandhi had used the term "Rape in India" to speak out against sexual crimes and what he says is Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence on a former BJP leader's involvement in a rape case.

Congress's Maharashtra ally, Shiv Sena, also on Saturday reacted sharply to Rahul Gandhi's 'My name is not Rahul Savarkar' jibe, saying that there could not be any compromise about reverence for the Hindutva ideologue.
