Rain in Delhi:

The Meteorological Department has forecast that the monsoon will remain active for the next two days and the record of the last 57 years may be broken. Till Thursday, a total of 404.1 mm of rain has been recorded in Delhi in September. Earlier in 1944, there is a record of 417.3 mm of rain. In the year 2019, there was 404 mm of rain in the monsoon period.

Experts say that this may prove to be the second rainiest monsoon till the withdrawal of monsoon. Normally Delhi receives 653.6 mm of rain during monsoon. Last year 648.9 mm of rainfall was recorded. June 1 to September 15 normally receives 614.3 mm of rainfall.

Experts predict that the monsoon from Delhi may return by September 25. According to Mahesh Palawat, Vice President, Skymet Weather, the rains will continue till September 23-24. During this it will rain intermittently. In such a situation, Delhi can break the record of its second most rainy monsoon.

Record breaking rain:

According to the Meteorological Department, 404.1 mm of rain has been recorded at Safdarjung Manak Kendra in September, which is the highest in 77 years. Earlier, in 1944, 417.3 mm of rain had fallen, which was the highest rainfall in the period 1901-2021. Delhi had recorded over 100 mm of rain for two consecutive days earlier this month. This episode holds a record of 112.1 mm on September 1 and 117.7 mm on September 2.

If there is 20.2 mm more rain then the record of 64 will be broken. Delhi has recorded 1170.1 mm of rain. Prior to this, there is a record of 1190.9 mm of rain in 1964. That is, Delhi needs a total of 20.2 mm of rain to demolish the 1964 record.
