Weather Update: Heavy Rain in Tamil Nadu, 9 dead after a house collapses in Vellore

New Delhi: Rain continues to wreak havoc in Tamil Nadu. In the Vellore district of the state, there is news of a house falling due to heavy rains. Nine people including four children died in this accident. Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of those killed in the incident.

Let us tell you that during the current northeast monsoon, which started from October 1, Tamil Nadu has so far recorded 61 percent more rainfall than normal. At the same time, rain is continuing in many parts of the state including the districts of North Tamil Nadu.

Rain in Tamil Nadu:

Here, the low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal crossed the coast between Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh in the early hours of Friday. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the low pressure area crossed the coast between Chennai and Puducherry.

The IMD wrote on its Twitter wall that the low pressure area over South-West Bay of Bengal has moved north-westwards. It crossed the adjoining coasts of North Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh between Puducherry and Chennai between 3 and 4 am on 19 November. At the same time, 14 people had died recently due to heavy rains in Chennai and other northern areas of Tamil Nadu. Especially in Chennai, rain water had entered homes, hospitals and schools.

Meanwhile, a video became increasingly viral on social media, in which a woman police officer, who fainted after heavy rain, lifted her on her shoulder and took her to the hospital in an auto. Due to this work of Police Inspector Rajeshwari, this person's life was saved and he got medical treatment on time. People were praising Rajeshwari on Twitter. Actor-politician Kamal Haasan also congratulated the lady police officer who saved her life by carrying an unconscious person on her shoulders.

A total of 75,000 police personnel from local police, armed reserve, Tamil Nadu Special Police and Home Guard have been kept ready in view of heavy rains in Chennai and adjoining districts. 11 teams of NDRF and seven teams of SDRF have been deployed for relief and rescue operations. 11 teams were deployed in Tamil Nadu and 2 teams in Puducherry.
