RBI Governor Urjit Patel shown black flag at Kolkata airport

Kolkata: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Urjit Patel was shown black flags by alleged Congress workers at the NSC Bose airport here on Thursday.

A group of people shouted slogans like "Urjit Patel go back" and "Urjit Patel hai, hai" and tried to block his way when he stepped out of his car at the airport on his way back to Mumbai.

Patel visited Kolkata to attend a meeting of RBI board at the central bank's office.

The Trinamool Congress ministers and state legislators held a protest earlier in the day in front of the RBI's regional office in Kolkata, where RBI Governor was attending the meeting.

"The Prime Minister should explain why the demonetisation was done. If it was for the benefit of common man, then why so many people are still queuing up in front of RBI office even after 37 days of the decision," questioned state Irrigation Minister Rajib Banerjee.
