New Delhi: In view of the assembly elections to be held in five states including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, the Election Commission held a press conference today. Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra said that the term of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly is ending on May 14. We have met representatives of all political parties.

Regarding the 2022 UP assembly elections, Chandra said that political parties have requested that elections should be conducted keeping in mind the covid protocol. However, he has expressed concern about organizing the rallies.

He said that the final voter list will be released on January 5, 2022. At the same time, the Election Commissioner said that if people above 80 years of age do not want to come, then the Election Commission will give them the facility to vote at home. Apart from this, this facility will also be for disabled and covid affected people. For this, a team will go to the house of the voters and they will be told the time of videography.

VVPATs will be installed at all polling stations, he said. To ensure transparency in the election process, the facility of live webcasting will be available at about 1 lakh polling stations. In addition, all polling officers will be fully vaccinated.

Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra said that it is necessary to expedite the covid-19 vaccination in the polling states. He said the number of new voters in the age group of 18 to 19 years is three times more than in the last election. Also the proportion of women has increased from 839 to 868.
