Avalanches hit Gurez sector; Ten army jawans killed, two missing

Srinagar: At least ten army jawans have been killed after two avalanches struck Jammu and Kashmir's Gurez sector on Thursday.

The avalanche struck army camp of 51 RR in Gurez sector of Jammu and Kashmir in the early morning. A massive rescue operation is underway as two soldiers are reportedly missing.

"Rescue operations were immediately launched in extreme bad weather amid heavy snowfall," said a statement oficially released by the army camp after the unfortunate incident.

A similar incident on Wednesday had killed an Army Major and injured four other soldiers when an avalanche hit a camp in Sonmarg in Ganderbal district.
