Twitter doubles tweet character limit to 280 characters
New Delhi: In an attempt to make the micro-blogging website Twitter more expressive, the company has extended the tweet limit to 280 characters from its current limit of 140.
“Our research shows us that the character limit is a major cause of frustration for people tweeting in English,” the company said in a blog post, adding, “When people don’t have to cram their thoughts into 140 characters and actually have some to spare, we see more people Tweeting — which is awesome!"
Company said that it has expanded the character count because users tweeting in some languages like English, Spanish, Portuguese or French were heavily impacted due to this restriction.

Meanwhile, users tweeting in languages like Japanese, Korean and Chinese are not facing this problem much.
Alongside this change, Twitter is also updating the user interface so it no longer counts down the characters until you near the end. Instead, a circle will fill in as you approach the limit, and you won’t know how many characters you have left until only 20 remain.
