Mumbai: After her successful campaign to ensure entry of women in Shani Shingnapur and Trimbakeshwar temples in Maharashtra, the famous women activist Trupti Desai finaly entered Mumbai’s Haji Ali Dargah on Thursday.

The social activist managed to enter the Dargah and offered prayers amid tight security, but was not allowed to go inside the sanctum sanctorum. She had been fighting for gender equality for long ---demanding entry of fair sex into religious places.

What Trupti said:

Trupti desai stated that her struggle was for gender equality.

"At the Dargah, I prayed that women be allowed to enter the inner sanctum, as was the case till 2011," Desai said, after coming out of the Dargah.

"Police cooperated with us this time. This is a fight for gender equality. We will try to visit the inner sanctum next time," she said.

Highlights:

Desai and other women activists were denied entry into the Dargah last month.

Earlier ,on April 28, she was prevented from entering the shrine by protesters.
