Triple Talaq Bill may procrastinate due to repeated adjournments in RS

On 31st December, the proceedings of Upper House were interrupted several times as opposition accused the central government of rushing through with the bill, whereas, the Center accused Congress of being against gender justice.

New Delhi: Rajya Sabha is adjourned for a day. The proceedings of Upper House will resume on Thursday at 11 am. Deputy Chairman has adjourned Upper House for the day.

The Triple Talaq Bill set forth to be discussed in Rajya Sabha on Decembers 31 could see procrastination due to the repeated adjournments of Upper House.

It is to be mentioned that the Upper House on Monday, was adjourned amid debate on Tripal Talaq Bill till January 2, due to sloganeering by AIADMK members.

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) MPs started to protests against the Cauvery-Mekedatu dam issue and trooped to the speaker's podium, after which the Rajya Sabha was adjourned.

On 31st December, the proceedings of Upper House were interrupted several times as opposition accused the central government of rushing through with the bill, whereas, the Center accused Congress of being against gender justice.

After which the whole opposition decided to corner the Center over the Triple Talaq Bill in the Upper House.

However, Triple Talaq Bill had got green signal in the Lok Sabha on December 27. The bill holds instant Triple Talaq or Talaq-e-Bidat as a criminal offence, which may mount up to three years in jail with a fine.
