Trial in conspiracy case to begin in special CBI court tomorrow

Lucknow: With the special CBI court ordering on Tuesday resumption of trial from the next day , the conspiracy case related to demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, has reached a decisive stage.

The Supreme Court which has intervened in the matter has asked the court to hear the case on a day to day basis and complete it in two years which it will do to comply with the order.

Two years is a small period but it has taken a much longer time. The case was heard earlier too and was dropped on technical grounds. It is being revived because of the apex body. The case was filed soon after demolition of the mosque in 1992, 25 years ago.

Although none of the accused who will face trial from Wednesday said anything inside, outside the court some of them answered media queries.

Fire-brand Bharatiya Janata Party leader Uma Bharti who is a minister had no clue as to what constituted a conspiracy in this case. There was an open rebellion against the mosque and lakhs of people who had collected around it demolished it in a frenzy.

However, she said she has a great respect for the judiciary and will abide by whatever judgement is given by it.

Sakshi Maharaj, another fiery saffron leader , was more emphatic than others on the Ram temple issue. " That will be constructed at lord Ram's birth place in Ayodhya. No one can stop construction of the temple at that site", he stressed.

Bharatiya Janata Party member of parliament Vinay Katiyar raised a new issue. According to him, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav should be also tried in the case. Reason? He has himself admitted during recent assembly election campaign that he has regrets for ordering a firing on temple supporters which killed 16 persons. " It's an admission of guilt" , he said.
