Three soldiers martyred, 4 injured in encounter with ULFA

Dispur: At least 3 soldiers were martyred and four others injured in an ongoing encounter with suspected United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) terrorists in Pengri area of Tinsukia district of Assam on Saturday.

What officials said:

  • The Defence public relations officer Lt. Col. Suneet Newton said, "The incident took place at around 0530 hours in the Pengeri area.”
  • He further stated, “The militants had planted an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on the road. When the IED exploded, the convoy stopped. Then the militants fired indiscriminately.”
  • He said that the forces retaliated to the attack.
  • Confirming the deaths, the Director General of Assam Police Mukesh Sahay said, "The operation still continues and three soldiers have been martyred."
