Lucknow: India is well known for its Unity in Diversity. This second populous country in the world is home to many religions, cultures, cast and creed. The best part of living in a religiously diverse country is that one can celebrate festivals every month.

Different communities celebrate Diwali for different reasons, but the customs and traditions are often the same. For instance, the Jains celebrate it for attaining “moksha”, and the Sikhs for the Mughals releasing Guru Hargobind from prison.

Indians, however, love to celebrate. Any occasion, be it a marriage ceremony or a religious festival, the people here are smart enough to add glamour and they make the occasion grand and lively.

But in the recent past India has witnessed a division in terms of religion, hence tarnishing and killing the very soul of the country. The infamous politics of religion has put two major communities in the country face to face. Religious intolerance has become a new trend; people blaming each other for having different belief system and values.

In such worsening scenario could this 'festival of Lights' can bring joy and happiness in their hearts? Can this Diwali illuminate the lives of poors? Can this Diwali be able to unite the nation irrespective of social and geographical boundaries?

In India, millions of people live across its length and width, who practise different religions like Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Jainism, Christianity, Buddhism etc.

The Diwali ties Indians belonging to different states, languages, culture, class and religious backgrounds in one tone. Everyone can be seen in festive mood shopping, decorating, lighting and going mad for firecrackers. The entire nation is gorgeously decorated with lights making it look like a newly wedded bride.

People visit each other homes and exchange gifts, sweets and bursts firecrackers.

Festivity not only bring joy but help people come closer. Not only Diwali but Eid and Christmas are also celebrated with same spirit and fervor. Such festival spread the message of unity among fellow Indians.

Festivals not only unite people but it also provide employment to poors. Many underprivileged people get work during festivals by making decorative items, selling firecrackers and sweets. People irrespective of religious backgrounds come together to help make this festival more beautiful.
