Supreme Court refuses plea seeking inquiry against ex-CJI Ranjan Gogoi

The Supreme Court on Friday refused to consider the plea seeking to constitute a three-judge panel to probe the conduct of former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi as a judge of the apex court.

The Supreme Court on Friday refused to consider the plea seeking to constitute a three-judge panel to probe the conduct of former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi as a judge of the apex court. Gogoi is currently a Rajya Sabha MP.

SC refused Petition:

A bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra termed the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) unconstitutional and said that the petitioner did not press for a hearing in the last two years. Apart from this, the tenure of Justice (Retd) Gogoi has now ended.

A division bench of Justices BR Gavai and Krishna Murari asked the petitioner why did you not pressurize the hearing in the last two years? He said that this petition has become unconstitutional as Gogoi's term has already ended. The bench told the petitioner Arun Ramchandra Hublikar, "Sorry, we cannot consider this petition."

The petitioner had demanded an inquiry against Gogoi for alleged 'commissions and omissions' during his tenure as a Supreme Court judge. The petitioner claimed before the bench that he had met the top court general secretary to list his petition but it was not listed. Let us tell you that Gogoi was relieved from the post of CJI on November 17 last year.
