New Delhi: The Supreme Court has convicted senior advocate Prashant Bhushan in the contempt case. The debate on his sentence today begins on August 20 in the Supreme Court. On the other hand, Prashant Bhushan's lawyer Dushyant Dave, while filing a review petition in the court, sought to stop the debate on the sentence.
This petition has been rejected by the SC on Thursday. The court said that even if we will pronounce the sentence, the review will not be applicable till the judgment on the petition.
Supreme Court rejected review petition:
Advocate Prashant Bhushan had filed an application in the Supreme Court to postpone the debate on the sentence and give a review petition. Bhushan had also appealed to have the sentence heard in another bench, but the court rejected that too. The court says that if we punish you then it will not apply till the decision on review.
SC said that we think you are trying to avoid this back. At the same time, Bhushan's lawyer said that if punishment is postponed, then there will be no trouble. Prashant Bhushan's lawyer Dushyant Dave said that the appeal under the review is correct and the sentence can be adjourned. If the punishment is postponed, then no sky will be broken.
