Supreme Court directs States to formulate scheme for migrant workers
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday, while giving its verdict in the case of migrant laborers, said that all migrants should be made restructured and brought to their destination within 15 days. The Supreme Court in its order said that additional trains would be provided by the central government within twenty-four hours of the demand for the train.
Collect data of all migrants:
The Supreme Court asked the state governments to set up counseling centers for migrant laborers. Also asked to collect data of all those, whether at village level or block level. Apart from this, the court asked for mapping the skills of the workers to help them in employment. Also, if the workers want to return to work, the state governments should help them.
The bench of Supreme Court said, “Centre and states have to prepare a list for identification of migrant workers in a streamlined manner. Employment relief will have to be mapped out and skill-mapping will be carried out to migrant labourers.”
Central Govt will provide special trains:
The Supreme Court, in its order, also said that the cases of lockdown violations lodged against workers during the migration should be withdrawn. All the workers should be registered and those who want to go back home, should be sent home within 15 days from today. If additional trains are demanded by the state governments, then the central government should meet the demand for trains in 24 hours.
The Supreme Court has also ordered the State and Union Territories to formulate a scheme to provide employment to migrant laborers.
