Patiala: Attacking Pakistan of making desperate efforts of reviving terror, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said Pak could be behind the Narbha jailbreak incident which took place here on Sunday.

"Pakistan desperate to revive terror and could be behind Nabha jailbreak," said Punjab Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Centre has asked state government for the report over the jailbreak incident. Meanwhile, the state government suspended suspended Director General (Jail) and dismissed the superintendent and deputy superintendent of the Nabha jail.

"A team under Additional Director General of Police has been formed to investigate the incident. Strict action will be taken against whoever responsible (for this)," said Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal.

A reward of Rs 25 lakh, however, has been announced over the escaped prisoners.

Earlier, 10 armed men entered the high security Nabha jail, opened fire and freed five prisoners including Khalistan Liberation Front chief Harminder Mintoo here on Sunday. The unidentified men stormed the jail wearing police uniforms and also fled along with prisoners.

Gangster Vicky Gondar, Gurpreet Sekhon, Nita Deol and Vikramjeet were the others who succeeded in escaping, said police.

A high alert has been called in the state and security is tightened in the remote areas including railway stations, airport and other places. Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal held a meeting with senior officials regarding the same.

  • Punjab Police arrested him from IGI Airport in 2014.
  • He is accused 2008 attack on Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Sing
  • He was also recovered with explosives in 2010 at at Halwara Air Force station
