New Delhi: The Serum Institute is preparing to bring a booster dose against the Omicron variant of Corona. However, the studies and their findings regarding this new variant are awaited. Serum Institute head Adar Poonawalla told in an interview to a media channel that the research on Omicron would take one to two weeks to complete. We are waiting for those findings, if need be, we will develop a new vaccine.

Vaccine Booster dose:

Adar Poonawalla said that if needed, the new vaccine that will be prepared will be given as a booster dose. He told that it may take six months to prepare it. He said that on the basis of research, we will decide whether it will be the third or fourth vaccine or booster dose. There may not be a need for additional vaccines for Omicron.

Adar Poonawalla said that the study of The Lancet has revealed that covishield is up to 63 percent effective on Corona and it also reduces the chances of hospitalization. Despite this, if people need to be given a booster dose, then we have enough reserve of doses. He told that we have more than two crore doses available now, if the government announces, we will make them available.

Adar Poonawalla said that those who have taken the same dose of vaccine or not even one. They should take both doses. Only after this, if needed, a booster dose can be used. However, at present, the government has no plans to give a booster dose. He said that there is a lot of difference between the conditions of India and European countries.
