New Delhi: The Supreme Court, on Wednesday, approved a notification of the Central Government providing protection to those who lend a helping hand to victims of road accidents by rushing them to a hospital or reporting about the incident to the police or ambulance services.

The bench of Justice V Gopala Gowda approved the notification that will also provide protection to witnesses of road accident cases, assuring them not to face any harrowing experiences.

Highlights:

  • The order has a motive to save the lives of numerous road accident victims.
  • Until now, people often used to avoid helping them being afraid of the harassment by police and other law enforcing agencies.
  • The ministry of road transport and highways had issued the notification after the Supreme Court asked it to set suitable guidelines to prevent harassment of the do-gooders.
