Sabarimala: Two women below 50 years allegedly enter temple shrine

Kochi: Two women Bindu and Kanakadurga under the age of 50, allegedly entered the Sabarimala temple in Kerala on Wednesday morning.Defying the age-old-temple custom which prohibits the entry of women falling under menstruating, these two women entered the temple with the help of police in civil dress. A video of these two ladies entering the shrine went viral on Social Media.

It is to be mentioned that last year in September, a five-judge constitution bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra and other judges, threw open the temple doors for women of all ages challenging the centuries-old prohibition on women entry in Sabarimala temple.

According to the viral video, Bindu and Kanakadurga used entrance, used by VIPs and the media, to enter into the sanctum of the temple.

Bindu and Kanakadurga purportedly started climbing for sanctum sanctorum around midnight and reached inside in it early morning.

These women are residents of North Kerala, and earlier also tried to enter the Sabarimala temple. But due to the massive protests in the last week of December, Bindu and Kanakadurga were unable to enter the temple.

Whereas, police denied the entry of women in the temple premises and District police chief is not entertaining any call.

In this context, Ayyappa Dharma Sena leader Rahul Easwar, head of all the protests against Supreme Court’s verdict said that it is extremely difficult for women to enter the shrine but they will verify the viral video and take appropriate action.
