New Delhi: Wading into the controversy, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Supreme Court advocate Ajay Agrawal on Wednesday requested National Investigative Agency (NIA) to file an FIR against the Congress leaders who took part in a meeting with Pakistani officials.

Ajay Agarwal wrote to NIA that the meeting seems to be an attempt to weaken the ruling government and affect the Gujarat Assembly elections. He said that Mani Shankar Aiyar, on the very next day of the meeting, used 'Neech Aadmi' remark for the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi.

"The act is exciting hatred towards the elected government and the person doing it and the persons involved in conspiracy should be booked under Section 124 (A) (sedition) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)," Agrawal stated, in his letter to the NIA.

"No subsequent discussion in the meeting no note of the same was convoyed to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) by the former Prime Minister and former Vice president, which they should have done as per the existing protocol," he said.

Agarwal did not stop here and continued his scathing attack on the Congress, saying, "When the Government of India has taken a stand of the No talk with the Pakistan until they stopped exporting terror to India then who authorized the above personalities to do the meeting?"

Earlier, in an unusually hard-hitting statement, Manmohan Singh denied allegations by Modi that he and others, including former Vice President Hamid Ansari and former Army Chief Gen. Deepak Kapoor, invited to a dinner at Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar's residence with Pakistani diplomats discussed the Gujarat election.

"I am deeply pained and anguished by the falsehood and canards being spread to score political points in a lost cause by none less than ... Modi," the senior Congress leader had said.

"Fearing imminent defeat in Gujarat, desperation of the Prime Minister to hurl every abuse and latch on to every straw is palpable.

"Sadly and regrettably, Modi is setting a dangerous precedent by his insatiable desire to tarnish every Constitutional office including that of a former Prime Minister and Army Chief," Manmohan Singh added.

Responding to a sharp attack by Singh on Modi, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said when there is a national position that there can be no dialogue with Pakistan till it keeps sponsoring terrorism in India, being the principal opposition party, the Congress should have abided by it.
