Cash withdrawal limit raised by Reserve Bank of India to avoid confrontation

New Delhi: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Monday enhanced the cash withdrawal limit at ATMs from Rs 4,500 to Rs 10,000 from today onwards.

The central bank, however, did not increase the weekly cap of Rs 24,000.

The weekly cash withdrawal limit for the current account holders from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh, stated the bank in an official announcement, adding, the limits are also applicable to overdraft and cash credit accounts.

The central bank had imposed the cash withdrawal limits due to the Centre's November 8 decision of demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes.

Earlier on January 1, the Reserve Bank of India had relaxed the cash withdrawal limit at ATMs from Rs 2,500 to Rs 4,500.

Where people have welcomed the relaxation in cash withdrawal limit at ATMs, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee termed the move as eyewash.
