Rajasthan: 23 dead, 27 injured as wedding hall's wall collapses in Bharatpur
Bharatpur (Rajasthan): In a gloomy incident, 23 people, including four children, lost their lives and 27 others sustained injuries when a wall of a marriage hall collapsed due to a heavy storm here on Wednesday night, said police.
The incident took place when a marriage function was underway in the building, added police.
People were taking shelter under a shed that was attached with the wall which collapsed suddenly and left 22 dead and 28 injured, Inspector General of Police Alok Vashishtha said informing about the incident.
District Collector NK Gupta later said that one of the injured succumbed to his injuries taking the toll to 23.
The IG further added that the entire structure of the wall and the shed collapsed suddenly and the people who were taking shelter got trapped under the debris.
Superintendent of Police Anil Tank said that the wall was about 90-feet long and 12-13 feet in height. There were a number of food stalls installed adjoining the wall. A tin shed was also attached to a portion of the wall.

"The injured were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. One of the injured was referred to SMS Hospital in Jaipur for further treatment," he said.
The weather changed suddenly and heavy winds started blowing which led to the incident at Sewar Road. According to the police sources, the bodies have been shifted to a mortuary and postmortem will be undertaken tomorrow.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje condoled the deaths and asked the concerned officials to ensure proper treatment of the injured.
