New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday asked the Railways to move towards a speedy progress. The PM while addressing the Rail Vikas Shivir at Surajkund through video conferencing said, "This is a technology driven century, innovation is essential, and so the Railways has to be about both 'Gati' (speed) and 'Pragati' (progress)." He further added, "this will benefit India and particularly those working for this sector."

Remembering his childhood days, Modi said, "My childhood was spent on rail platforms. That is all the more reason I want to transform this sector."

What else did the Prime Minister said:

  • We should focus on development and financial strength.
  • Each official doing his work is good but we also have to work together and think about how we want the Railways to be.
  • Focus of the Government’s Rail Budgets has never been politics, instead, we have worked towards a paradigm shift in the Railways.
  • The century has changed and so must the systems and I am confident that the team that we have can achieve this.
