After Rahul's elevation only his pet dog 'Pidhi' will matter: BJP

New Delhi: Mocking Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi's "definite election" as party chief, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday said that now only his favourite pet dog "Pidhi" would matter and Congress supporters should get ready to "salute Pidhi".

"Congratulations to Rahul Gandhi on his definite election as Congress President. Now, neither the old generation, nor new generation matters. Only Rahul's favourite Pidhi matters. Friends of Congress, get ready to salute Pidhi," Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson G.V.L. Narsimha Rao said in a tweet attaching a picture of Gandhi's pet Pidhi.

Rao's remarks came after the Gandhi scion filed his nomination papers for the party President's post here. None other leader from the party has filed for the post.

Gandhi is set to succeed his mother Sonia Gandhi, the longest serving Congress chief who has helmed the party since 1998.

Rahul Gandhi became the Congress Vice President in January 2013.
