Rahul takes a 'U-turn' on Sabrimala issue; now upholds tradition

New Delhi: Congress president Rahul Gandhi's retraction on the entry of women in Sabarimala Temple has been welcomed by the Congress leadership of Kerala.

The Party said that though this statement has come a little late, yet it has saved the party from further embarrassment.

Rahul had earlier stated that he supports the entry of women in the holy shrine of Sabarimala. Now he topsy-turveyed his statement saying that he sees much credit in the reasons of traditionalists who are arguing for ban on the entry of women of menstruating age in Sabarimala.

While talking to media in Dubai on Saturday, RaGa said that earlier he believed that women have equal rights in traditions and they should not be barred from prayers and worship, but some days back when the party people talked to public on the disputed issue, they realized that the traditionalist had a strong valid reason as per their belief. Both the sides have rational arguments and it's a very complicated matter.

Therefore, party and system need to refrain from taking any decision over Sabarimala. The choice should be left with people alone as to what they want to be done.

Rahul's statement may be seen as a shield to protect the party from any religious outburst as the Sabarimala matter has gained a lot of momentum and has become a political hotbed in recent times.
