Masood Azhar's nephew among three JeM militants killed in gunfight
Srinagar: An Indian Army soldier was martyred while three terrorists, including the nephew of terror outfit chief Masood Azhar, were knocked down in a gun battle between the security forces and the terrorists, while a civilian sustained injuries in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday.
Quoting a JeM statement, local news agency said that Talha Rasheed, nephew of Azhar, was among the three militants killed in the gunfight with security forces in Aglar village of Pulwama district.
According to police a soldier identified as Sham Sunder of 44 Rashtriya Rifles was killed during the encounter in Aglar village of Pulwama district in south Kashmir.
A civilian identified as Tariq Ahmad sustained a bullet injury during simultaneous clashes between protesting civilians and the security forces near the encounter site. The protesters were trying to disrupt the operation against the holed up militants.
As per the police control room in Pulwama, the encounter broke out at around 6 pm after the militants launched fire at the security forces.
Kashmir Inspector General of Police (IG) Muneer Khan said that they were trying to ascertain the identities of the three militants. "Possibly one should be local and two were foreigners," Khan said, adding that they were searching the area.
According to an army spokesman, the security forces have recovered two AK-47 rifles and one pistol from the site.
Police said the injured civilian was shifted to hospital and reinforcements have been rushed to the area to augment the strength of the security forces engaged in the gunfight.
Following special intelligence inputs troops of the Rashtriya Rifles, state police and the Central Reserve Police Force had surrounded Aglar village on Monday evening.
As the security forces closed in on the hiding terrorists, they were fired at, triggering the gunfight which was on till the last reports, police added.
Meanwhile, Internet facility in Pulwama district has been suspended to check the spread of rumours in the area.
Earlier in the day, terrorists attacked the vehicle of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha National General Secretary Abhijaat Mishra while he was returning back after paying visit to the family of deceased party leader Gauhar Ahmed.
He was in his bullet proof vehicle owing to which he escaped injuries despite several rounds of firing.
Few days ago, terrorists killed BJYM leader Gowhar Ahmed, whose body, with its throat slit, was found in a village in Shopian.
