Srinagar: An Indian Army soldier was martyred while three terrorists, including the nephew of terror outfit chief Masood Azhar, were knocked down in a gun battle between the security forces and the terrorists, while a civilian sustained injuries in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday.

Quoting a JeM statement, local news agency said that Talha Rasheed, nephew of Azhar, was among the three militants killed in the gunfight with security forces in Aglar village of Pulwama district.

According to police a soldier identified as Sham Sunder of 44 Rashtriya Rifles was killed during the encounter in Aglar village of Pulwama district in south Kashmir.

A civilian identified as Tariq Ahmad sustained a bullet injury during simultaneous clashes between protesting civilians and the security forces near the encounter site. The protesters were trying to disrupt the operation against the holed up militants.

As per the police control room in Pulwama, the encounter broke out at around 6 pm after the militants launched fire at the security forces.

Kashmir Inspector General of Police (IG) Muneer Khan said that they were trying to ascertain the identities of the three militants. "Possibly one should be local and two were foreigners," Khan said, adding that they were searching the area.

According to an army spokesman, the security forces have recovered two AK-47 rifles and one pistol from the site.

Police said the injured civilian was shifted to hospital and reinforcements have been rushed to the area to augment the strength of the security forces engaged in the gunfight.
