New Delhi: Today is the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister to take over the reins of the country after independent India. The country is remembering its first Prime Minister. PM Modi has tweeted and paid tribute to the first Prime Minister of the country.

PM Modi wrote in the tweet, "My humble tribute to the first Prime Minister of the country, Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru ji on his birth anniversary."

Pt. Nehru Birth Anniversary:

On the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi reached Shanti Van in Delhi and paid tribute by paying floral tributes at his Samadhi.

After the independence of the country, on 15 August 1947, he became the first Prime Minister of India. Before 1964 (Nehru's death) in India, Children's Day was celebrated on 20 November, but after his death, it was decided to celebrate his birthday i.e. 14 November as Children's Day. In many countries, June 1 is celebrated as Children's Day. Some countries celebrate Children's Day on November 20 according to the declaration of the United Nations.

Tribute to Nation's first PM:

Nehru moved to England at the age of 15 and after two years at Harrow took admission at Cambridge University, from where he earned a bachelor's degree in natural science. After returning to India in 1912, he directly joined politics. In 1912 he participated in the Bankipur Conference as a delegate and in 1919 became the Secretary of the Home Rule League of Allahabad. In 1916, he met Mahatma Gandhi for the first time, from whom he was greatly inspired.

Pandit Nehru was born on 14 November 1889 in Allahabad (Prayagraj), Uttar Pradesh. Pandit Nehru was more attached to children. Children used to call him Chacha Nehru. The birth anniversary of Pandit Nehru is also celebrated as Children's Day. After the death of Pandit Nehru in 1964, Children's Day was celebrated on his birth anniversary. Pandit Nehru became the first Prime Minister after the country's independence in the year 1947. He held the post of PM till his death in the year 1964.
