New Delhi: On the 134th birth anniversary of Dr. Rajendra Prasad, President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi including other leaders paid their homage.

President Kovind paid floral tribute to the nation's first President.

Prime Minister took to Twitter and posted, "A symbol of rich talent, simple life and high thoughts and ideas, Rajendra Babu will always remain an inspiration to the countrymen." He tweeted in Hindi.

Prasad was born on December 3, 1884 in Siwan, Bihar.

He held the highest office in the country from January 26, 1950 to May 13, 1962.

As a child, Rajendra Prasad was taught by a Maulavi (Muslim scholar), as his father wanted him to learn the Persian language, Hindi and arithmetic.

Rajendra Prasad played an instrumental role in forming the Bihari Students Conference at the hall of Patna College in 1906.

He was jailed multiple times by the British; once in 1931 for participating in the Salt Satyagraha Movement, and once in 1942 for being an active member of the Quit India Movement.

Dr Rajendra Prasad died on 28th February 1963 after suffering from illness for 6 months. He spent his last few days in Sadaqat Ashram situated in Patna.
