Prez Kovind, PM Modi greet Indian soldiers on Army Day
On this occasion, the President tweeted, “On Army Day, greetings to the valiant men and women of the Indian Army, to veterans and their families. You are our nation’s pride, the sentinels of our liberty. Citizens sleep securely knowing you are ever awake and ever vigilant.”
New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday greeted the Army personnel on the 71st Army Day.
On this occasion, the President tweeted, “On Army Day, greetings to the valiant men and women of the Indian Army, to veterans and their families. You are our nation’s pride, the sentinels of our liberty. Citizens sleep securely knowing you are ever awake and ever vigilant.”

The Prime Minister also took to twitter and hailed the soldiers for putting the nation first and said the country had unwavering trust and pride in the Army.

It is to be mentioned that Army Day is celebrated every year in India in recognition of Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa's (then a Lieutenant General) taking over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India, on 15 January 1949.

Army Day marks a day to salute the valiant soldiers who sacrificed their lives to protect the country and its citizens.
In 1942, K M Cariappa became the first Indian Army Officer who was passed on to command a unit.
