Prakash Parv: PM Narendra Modi, Nitish Kumar praise each other

Patna: On the occasion of Prakash Parv celebration held to mark the 350th anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday shared the dais with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for the first time in nine months.

The PM and the Bihar CM joined a function at Gandhi Maidan where a makeshift Gurdwara had been installed for the purpose.

From the stage, they both poured praises over each other. Lauding the liquor-ban in Gujarat, Nitish said that Bihar might have imposed the decision late, but Gujarat had banned the sale of liquor a long time ago. He added that the landmark move was made by then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

On the other hand, PM Modi said that the Bihar CM has saved the coming generations of Bihar with the liquor-ban decision. This was the first time since BJP's defeat in the Bihar Assembly polls 2015 when the two leaders hared a dais.

In his first visit to Bihar post demonetisation, PM Modi paid tribute to Guru Granth Sahib. Over 3 lakh people from different nations have reached Bihar for the Prakash Parv celebrations. The state government has arranged 35 hospices to accommodate the pilgrims free of cost.

The Bihar government has spent around Rs 200 crore in making adequate arrangements for the pilgrims.

It has been observed that despite opposition from his party, Janata Dal-United (JD-U), Nitish Kumar has bluntly supported the Centre's decision of demonetisation.

The celebration was also joined by Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind, Punjab CM Prakash Singh Badal, Union Ministers Ravi Shankar Prasad and Ram Vilas Paswan.
