New Delhi: Veteran actor Dilip Kumar passed away on Wednesday morning after a prolonged illness. His family and the doctors treating him gave this information. He was 98 years old. He was admitted to Hinduja Hospital on Tuesday. He was in ICU. There is a wave of mourning in the country since the news of the death of Dilip Kumar, popularly known as 'Tragedy King' in Bollywood.

PM Modi writes on Twitter:

Prime Minister Modi said, 'Dilip Kumar ji will be remembered as a cinematic legend. He was blessed with unparalleled talent, due to which the audience was enthralled for generations. His passing is a loss to our cultural world. Condolences to his family, friends and countless fans.

Shri Dilip Kumar ji was a legend of the silver screen. Indian cinema has lost a great actor. He has entertained generations of cinema lovers with his incredible acting and iconic roles. My heartfelt condolences to the family and followers of Dilip ji.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted, "Shri Dilip Kumar ji was an outstanding actor who was well appreciated by all for his exemplary contribution to the Indian film industry. His acting in films like Ganga Jamuna impressed millions of cine-lovers. I am deeply saddened by his death. I met Dilip Kumar ji personally when I went to Mumbai to present him the Padma Vibhushan. It was a special moment for me to interact with the great actor. His death is an irreparable loss to Indian cinema. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and fans.
