PM Modi’s Varanasi makes it to smart cities list, 27 qualify

New Delhi: Union Minister of Urban Development Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday issued a third list of Smart Cities in which 12 states and 27 cities have made it to the list. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi is also among 27 cities.

The 27 cities will need a total investment of Rs. 66,883 crore.

Numbers of cities from particular state which made it to the list are:

  • Maharashtra – 5
  • Tamil Nadu – 4
  • Karnataka – 4
  • Uttar Pradesh – 3
  • Madhya Pradesh -2
  • Punjab- 2
  • Rajasthan – 2
  • Andhra Pradesh – 1
  • Odisha – 1
  • Gujarat – 1
  • Nagaland – 1
  • Sikkim – 1

There are 63 cities which participated to get enlisted in the third list of Smart Cities.

In three rounds, the urban development ministry has selected 60 cities covering states and union territories. Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir are among the states which are yet to come under the scheme.

The list of Smart Cities announced by the Centre are: Agra, Ajmer, Amritsar, Aurangabad, Gwalior, Hubli-Dharwad, Jalandhar, Kalyan-Dombiwali, Kanpur, Kohima, Kota, Madurai, Mangaluru, Nagpur, Namchi,Nashik,Rourkela, Salem,Shivamogga,Thane, Thanjavur,Tirupati,Tumakuru,Ujjain,Vadodara,Varanasi,Vellore, Mangaluru, Nagpur, Namchi,Nashik,Rourkela
