PM Modi BIMSTEC Summit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually addressed the conference of BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation). The PM said that this is the 25th year of the establishment of BIMSTEC, so I consider today's summit to be particularly important. The outcome of this landmark summit will write a golden chapter in the history of BIMSTEC.

Modi further said that President Rajapaksa has given efficient leadership to BIMSTEC in the challenging environment of the last two years. For which I congratulate him. In today's challenging global context, our region has remained no untouched. We are still facing the ill effects of Corona.

Let us tell you that this time the BIMSTEC summit is being organized by Sri Lanka. A meeting of senior officials was held on March 28 to prepare for BIMSTEC. The next day i.e. on March 29, there was a meeting of the Foreign Ministers. In this meeting, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar called upon the seven member countries (India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Thailand and Nepal) to formulate a collective policy against terrorism and violent extremism.

In the meeting held on Tuesday, S Jaishankar said that we cannot ignore the challenges of terrorism and violent extremism. Similarly, drug trade and cyber attacks are also big challenges. We should have a legal framework so that our legal investigative agencies can have a closer and more effective liaison against such challenges.

Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation is a regional organization of countries adjoining and adjoining the Bay of Bengal. BIMSTEC consists of seven member countries adjoining the Bay of Bengal. Apart from India, it includes Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Thailand.
