Sardar Patel died of a heart attack in Mumbai on 15 December 1950. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah saluted him on this day.

New Delhi: Today is the 7oth death anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, known as India's first Deputy Prime Minister, Home Minister and 'Iron Man'.

He was born on 31st October 1875 in Kheda, Gujarat and died of a heart attack in Mumbai on 15 December 1950. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah saluted him on this day.

Prime Minister Modi wrote,'' Blessings to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who laid the foundation of a strong, empowered and prosperous India on his death anniversary. His path will always inspire us to protect the unity, integrity and sovereignty of the country.

Amit Shah described Sardar Patel as a symbol of unity of India, and said, 'The life and personality of Sardar Patel is so vast that it is not possible to get it into words. Sardar Saheb is the symbol of unity and power of India, he solved complex problems and shaped an united India. His steadfast leadership and national dedication will always guide us.

Please tell that not only did Sardar Patel contribute to the independence of the country, he also played an important role in uniting the country. When India became independent on 15 August 1947, there were more than 550 small and big princely states in the country. Many of these princely states had decided to remain independent, but Sardar Patel combined all these to create a united India.
