Yet another hike in diesel and petrol prices, effective today

New Delhi: Petrol price was hiked by Rs 2.19 per litre and diesel by 98 paise a litre on Tuesday.

“In Delhi, petrol will cost Rs 61.87 per litre as against Rs 59.68 earlier. Likewise, one litre of diesel will cost Rs 49.31 against the previous price of Rs 48.33,” said an official of Indian Oil Corporation, the country’s biggest fuel retailer.

State-owned fuel retailers Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) revise rates of the fuel on 1st and 16th of every month depending on the foreign exchange rate and the average oil price. The revision was due last week, but the retailers chose to postpone it by few days.

Highlights:

  • In Uttar Pradesh, petrol will now cost Rs 65.74 a litre and diesel Rs. 51.09 per litre.
  • This is the second straight increase in petrol price while, the fourth fortnightly increase in diesel rates.
  • The petrol price was increased by Rs 3.07 while the diesel rates by Rs 1.90 a litre on March 17 last.
