New Delhi: Parameswaran Iyer, a 1981 batch Uttar Pradesh cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer who took voluntary retirement in 2009, has been recalled by Modi government at the Centre and appointed him as secretary of Drinking Water and Sanitation department.

Iyer, who had the credit to launch Jal Suraj programme here before joining the World Bank, carved a niche for himself as water and sanitation expert. His assignment would be on contract basis for two years to head the department that anchors the Centre’s ambitious programme of Swachh Bharat Mission.

His appointment will help the central government to create a balance Swachh Bharat Mission and objectives of the WB being an expert in the field as well as give impetus to one of the dream projects of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
