Pankaj Singh violates Model Code of Conduct, FIR lodged

Noida: The son of Home minister Rajnath Singh and a BJP candidate from Noida assembly seat in Uttar Pradesh Pankaj Singh was booked for breaching the Model Code of Conduct here. An FIR has been lodged against him at Surajpur police station.

It was alleged that he violated the directives of Election Commission by entering the prescribed boundaries with his supporters to file his nomination. According to the guidelines issued by the commission, no candidate is allowed to carry vehicles and be surrounded by a large number of supporters within 100 metres of the place where the nomination is being filed.

According to Superintendent of Police Sujata Singh, "Pankaj Singh violated the rule and took the car within 100 metres range. I was not positioned there but the local police officers stated that Pankaj Singh's car and some other cars with him were within a 100-metre radius."

She further stated, " There is a limit for persons that can accompany a candidate to file nomination, we are scanning the CCTV footage for further investigation."

Noida constituency would go to polls in first phase of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections on February 11. The results would be announced on March 11.
