Panaji: Mayor Surendra Furtado and six others, including two journalists, were booked by the Panaji police, on directions of a district court, in connection with a boat mishap.

The incident took place while a de-weeding machine turned turtle, due to overloading, when the Mayor climbed on it during a demonstration on June 26 last.

Pooja Kavlekar, Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), has asked the police to file an FIR against them and complete the probe into the incident within two months.

The incident:

· A social activist Aires Rodrigues had filed a formal police complaint against Furtado, who was explaining the use of the de-weeding machine in a water body running through the capital city of Goa.

· Media persons were also invited to cover the demonstration and two of them were also the part of the group that had boarded the machine.

· The social activist, however, alleged that his FIR was not registered by the Pananji police and he had to approach JMFC.
