Pakistan army provided cover fire to BAT to behead Indian soldiers: BSF

New Delhi: The Border Security Force (BSF) on Tuesday claimed that the Pakistan army provided cover fire to 'border action team' to help them assassinate Indian soldiers in the Krishna Ghati sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district.

"Taking advantage of the cover fire from the Pakistan side, BAT (Border Action Team) forces launched an attack on our soldiers and mutilated their bodies," KN Choubey, BSF ADG Western Command, said while addressing media on Tuesday.

Choubey further claimed that the third jawan who got injured in the attack has been admitted to the hospital and is stable now. "Army and BSF are going to hold a meeting together to plan out a way to avoid such incidents in future," he said.

In yet another outrageous act by Pakistan, two Indian soldiers were beheaded and another got injured by a Pakistani 'border action team' (BAT) that intruded into Indian boundaries under the cover of heavy firing in the Krishna Ghati sector of J&K's Poonch district on Monday.

The incident took place when a joint team of Indian Army and BSF had gone to check the authenticity of an intelligence report which claimed that the Pakistani army personnel had planted landmines on Indian turf. When the Indian soldiers were looking for the landmines, they were taken by surprise by Pakistan's BAT which had intruded as deep as 250 meters inside the Indian region.

While the Pakistani troops attacked two forward posts with rockets and mortar bombs, the BAT personnel lay in wait for their targets. The Indian army patrol too came under fusillade of gunfire, resulting in the death of two soldiers.

The BAT officials immediately rushed to the two fallen soldiers to mutilate their bodies, said the official sources. It is yet to be ascertained if the landmines were actually planted in that region.

The Director General of BSF KK Sharma met Union home secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and briefed him about the incident.

"It was a pre-planned operation by Pakistan army. They had pushed in the Border Action Team over 250 metres deep inside Indian territory and set up the ambush for a long period to carry out the attack," a senior officer said in Jammu.

"Their target was a patrol party of 7-8 members, which had come out of a post," the officer said, adding that as the posts were engaged, the patrol team members ran for cover.

Head constable Prem Sagar of 200th Battalion of the BSF and Naib Subedar Paramjeet Singh of 22 Sikh Regiment of the army were killed and their bodies were mutilated.
