Amritsar: The devotees coming to pay obeisance at revered Golden Temple in Amritsar will be served organic food in the famous 'Langar' , Approximately nd one lakh devotees and karsewaks are partaking in this service where they come together in the community kitchen to cook and feed the hungry.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), which administers Golden Temple, is hopeful that this initiative will motivate other Gurdwaras to follow this tradition and serve organic foods on the the plates. The SGPC is planning to raise the growth of natural veggies and dals. The organic veggies and grains comes from the seven acre land attached to the Gurdwara Gurusar Satlani Sahib.Currently the Gurdwaras recieves only 10 quintals every 3-4 days.

The secretary of SGPC Daljit Singh said that their main purpose is to serve chemical free foods to devotees and since January they started serving organic carrot, radish, spinach and cabbage as a part of Langar..The SGPC is planning to increase the growth of organic food for which they are taking expert advice from Punjab Agro Industries Corporation.
