Lucknow: Northern Railway has released a list of injured passengers in the derailment of Kalinga-Utkal Express in Khatauli in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday evening last.

According to an official statement released by the Northern Railway as many as 23 passengers were reported dead and 156 passengers have been been injured in this unfortunate accident.

"Out of 97 injured persons, 26 passengers are grievously injured while 71 have simple injuries," Chief Public Relations Officer said, adding that many injured people have discharged after providing first aid assistance.

The senior official of the NR stated, "Injured passengers have been admitted in Meerut and Muzaffarnagar Hospitals."

The railways have said that the affected rail route is expected to be cleared and traffic is likely to be restored by 1900 hours on sunday.

It could be mentioned that 14 coaches of the Haridwar bound Kalinga-Utkal Express went off the tracks in Khatauli in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday evening. The accidental site is about 25 km from Muzaffarnagar district headquarters and about 100 km from Delhi railway divisions under northern railways.

Railway Minister has announced ex gratia of Rs 3.5 lakh for the deceased and Rs 50 thousand for critically injured. Those who got minor injuries will be given financial assistance of Rs 25 thousand.
