New Delhi: In a decision to reduce the morale of security forces, the Centre has told security forces not to launch operations in Jammu and Kashmir during the holy month of Ramadan.

The decision was taken "to help the peace loving Muslims observe Ramzan in a peaceful environment", a Home Ministry statement said.

The Centre has, however, given Indian Army and J&K Police the right to retaliate if attacked or if essential to protect the lives of innocent people.
