Rio de Janeiro: After being selected as the member of International Olympic Committee (IOC), Nita Ambani, started her stint on Monday by handing the medals to women's 400m freestyle winners at the ongoing summer games in Rio de Janeiro of Brazil.

Nita has become the first ever Indian woman to honour the Olympians at the victory cermony.

She was selected as the member of IOC on August 4 last.

Ambani awarded the Gold medal to world record-holder American Kathleen Ledecky, Silver to Jazz Carlin of Great Britain and Bronze to another American Leah Smith.

Ledecky won the freestyle swimming event in record timing of 3 minutes 56.46 seconds.

Carlin and Smith came second and third in 4:01.23 and 4:01.92 respectively.

Nita, 52, will be a part of the high-profile body until she is aged 70.
