Nirav Modi arrested in London, will be produced in court today

Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi are under probe by both the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate. The ED filed money laundering cases against them and others on February 15 on the basis of an FIR registered by the CBI.

New Delhi: The fugitive businessman and $2 billion Punjab National Bank scam accused, Nirav Modi has been arrested by the London police on Wednesday after a London court issued an arrest warrant against him. He will be produced before the court today.

The 48-year-old, who is the subject of an extradition request by India, has been living in the city's West End area and has even started a new diamond business. An extradition request against Nirav Modi is pending since last September before the UK authorities.

On February 26, the Enforcement Directorate attached properties of Nirav Modi and his associate companies to the tune of Rs 147 crore in connection with its ongoing probe into the case.

The ED has till date attached properties worth Rs 4,765 crore of Choksi and Nirav Modi.

The diamantaire is living in a three-bedroom £8 million luxury flat near Oxford Street, where rent is understood to be £17,000 a month. Nirav, despite of on wanted list of Interpol has been allowed to started a new diamond business and has been issued a National Insurance number number by London government.
