Delhi government has imposed night curfew with immediate effect, news agency ANI tweeted. The night curfew will be in place from 10 pm to 5 am till 30 April. This is done in the wake of COVID-19 situation. Delhi reported 3,548 new Covid-1919 cases, 2,936 recoveries, and 15 deaths on Monday. With this, total cases in the national capital reached 6,79,962, including 14,589 active cases.

Earlier, amid the rise in Covid-19 cases, the state government was mulling to impose night curfew in the national capital ."A proposal for imposing night curfew is under consideration. The details are being discussed, including the time period of the curfew which could be from 10 pm to 5 am," a senior government official had told PTI.

Night curfew in other states

Apart from Delhi, several other states like Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Odisha, Gujarat and Punjab have imposed night curfew to check the surge in Covid-19 cases.

PM Modi to hold a meet with all CMs

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting on April 8 with chief ministers of all the states and Union Territories to discuss the current status of the Covid-19 pandemic in the nation along with issues related to vaccination via video conferencing, the Prime Minister's Office said on Monday.

CM Kejriwal writes to PM Modi:

Meanwhile, CM Kejriwal urges PM Modi to expand coverage of Covid-19 vaccination drive. Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking speedy vaccination and its increased coverage for citizens in the national capital and the country.

In his letter, Kejriwal requested PM Modi to relax conditions for opening new vaccination centres as well as relaxation in the age limit for vaccination and making it available for all. The request for a widespread vaccination plan by Kejriwal for citizens comes on a day when India marked a grim milestone by recording its highest ever single-day spike in the number of Covid-19 cases.
