NIA team reaches Kashmir to identify persons behind valley violence

Srinagar: A four-member National Investigation Agency (NIA) team reached here on Wednesday to identify persons who received foreign funds to create violence in Jammu and Kashmir which has claimed 70 lives so far. The valley has been witnessing stone-pelting and other violent acts for the last one and a half months.

According to agency sources, about Rs five crores were transferred from some foreign nation to the bank accounts of eight persons in the valley. The figure may be higher than what has been estimated so far The money was sent in instalment of Rs 10,000 each. All these accounts were held in Jammu and Kashmir banks.

The country from where the money was sent is yet to be identified. However, initial reports suggest that one of the gulf countries could be involved.

A case has been already registered in this connection. Further investigation is on.
