New Budget is dedicated to poor, women, youth and farmers

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday hailed the budget presented in the assembly by finance minister Rajesh Agarwal as path-breaking and claimed that it would take the state to a " new age".

Talking to media persons here, he said, this budget is dedicated to villagers, youth ,farmers and women who deserved better deals. All the previous governments had only provided lip-service to them.

The budget fully supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is in tune with his Sab Kaa Vikas theme. " The emphasis is on inconclusive growth which was not the aim of the previous governments".

The new chief minister was happy to announce that the debt burden on the state would not increase due to loan waiver scheme for farmers. The state would pay off their dues through its own sources.

It had entailed burden of Rs 36,000 crores by deciding to write-off the loan taken by small and marginal farmers who account for 86 per cent of the total farmers in the state. But for that government would not take any loan from the Centre or issue bonds. The necessary amount would be collected by better use of technology by different departments and financial discipline.

Wasteful expenditure would be curtailed to lessen the debt burden which has already come down from 30 to 28 per cent of the GDP. Many states had debt burden much above that of Uttar Pradesh.

U P loan waiving decision had opened floodgates for similar demands by other states including Maharashtra and Punjab. Both the states have followed U P and made similar announcements. However, none has declared how it will fill the revenue gap created by the decision.

The budget indicates the aims and objectives of the government and shows the direction it will go to ,he said adding that a roadmap has been already prepared for development of Bundelkhand and other backward regions.
